🥕 Yuka: a mobile app that allows you to scan the barcode of food & cosmetic products to know their impact on health.
Launched in France in Jan. 2017.
Developed by 3 talented co-founders: Julie Chapon, François Martin, & Benoît Martin. It is now operated by the 12-member team.
"Numbers tell all": 60 million users, 12 countries & 5 languages where Yuka is available, 5 million products in Yuka's database, 68 products scanned every second.
🌟 2 adjectives set Yuka app apart: Easy & Independent!
Just in one scan for each product, Yuka provides a quick & easy evaluation via a color code ranging from green to red. A detailed information sheet also allows you to understand the product rating and the criteria taken into account for it.
When the product is poorly rated, Yuka independently recommends similar products that are better for your health.
👑 Reasons Yuka gains users' trust:
✅A 100% independent project with one main purpose: to advise consumers and allow them to make more informed decisions. Independence is based on three principles:
No external influence: Yuka receives absolutely no financing from any brand or manufacturer: no one can influence Yuka's analyses or recommendations.
Ad-free: Yuka doesn't display any ads: no brand, manufacturer, or celebrity can promote their products on the app.
Protected data: Yuka doesn't sell or exploit user data. Personal data remains strictly confidential at all times.
✅Yuka provides its transparent report of revenue (on their website) which mainly comes from users' using Premium Yuka version ($10/year). A minor part of their revenue is from selling Books & Calendar (about health), Service Provision.
✅ Scoring method for food product based on nutritional rating system Nutri-Score (60%), the present of additives (30%), the organic component (10%). Meanwhile, scoring method for cosmetic products is taking full ingredient list into account. A detailed text of possible risks of each ingredient, along with its scientific sources, are available on the application.
🚀 Yuka's Mission goes far:
Helping consumers make better choices for health by providing transparent information of product.
Emboldening consumers with their buying power to act as catalysts for change so manufacturers improve what’s not good for health in their products.
** Yuka app is now available in 12 countries. If you can't download it on App Store, it means the app hasn't come to your country yet.
